It is usually recommended to change the oil every three months or 5,000 kilometers depending on the age of your vehicle. Newer models have longer time intervals. At Nixon Automotive, we complete the following with all BMW Oil Services:

It is important to have this service done by a certified mechanic that specializes on BMW’s. Facilities, such as a Quick Lube, that only focus on oil & lube services, probably do not have the same amount of experience and skill that our head mechanic does. They will have a much harder time detecting problems that are common with BMW’s. Most of their technicians are not exposed to the problems associated with a BMW as often as ours are.
How often should your oil filter be changed?
The oil filter should be changed every time you change a customer’s oil. Typically, oil and filter changes are recommended every 5,000 kilometers or three months for vehicles driven under severe-service conditions, which include stop-and-go driving. There are two important reasons to change the oil filter with every oil change:
- Removing the old oil filter removes more contaminants from the engine, preventing the fresh oil from being contaminated by a dirty oil filter.
- An oil filter that is not changed may become so contaminated that it impedes the flow of engine oil. Under these conditions, the bypass valve will open to allow unfiltered oil to circulate through the engine, and the contaminants in the unfiltered oil can do damage to engine parts.
